Jazz funerals, voodoo, yellow fever, and civil rights…
These are just some of the intriguing topics we cover on our small group tour through one of New Orleans’ most interesting cemeteries.
St. Louis Cemetery #1 houses some of the city’s oldest graves as well as many of its most notable past residents. Discover how people are “buried” in the above-ground tombs and learn to recognize cemetery symbolism. We stop by the future resting place of actor Nicholas Cage, and no visit to this cemetery is complete without seeing one of the most visited grave sites in the country — that of voodoo queen Marie Laveau.
Take an unforgettable walk with us through a place that can only be entered with a licensed tour guide approved through the Archdiocese of New Orleans. A portion of every ticket will go back to the cemetery for the preservation of these historic tombs.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. We also recommend bringing a bottle of water in the summer. At least two people are needed to run this tour (may be booked separately).
We’ll meet at Congo Square Coffee Shop at 806 N Rampart Street, New Orleans, LA 70116.
Not at all! While this New Orleans tour can touch on some creepy subjects, this isn’t really a ghost or haunted tour –– you’ll learn about our unique cemeteries and the history of the people interred within.
On this tour, you will walk approximately 0.75 miles with periods of standing for up to 10 minutes; guests will be walking or standing throughout the entire two-hour tour.
Absolutely! This is one of our favorite tours to recommend to guests with children.
This tour will max out at 9 guests. We pride ourselves on small group sizes so you’ll never be a part of one of those massive tour groups!
Our tours run rain or shine; please bring an umbrella or poncho in order to stay dry during the tour. If the weather is severe enough that it poses a danger, we will call you to explain our decision and discuss alternatives (this is why it’s very important to list a good cell phone number when booking online!). If we cancel a tour because of severe weather, all guests will be given a full refund.
